The National Autistic Society is here to transform lives, change attitudes and create a society that works for autistic people. There is still so much to do to increase opportunities, reduce social isolation and build a brighter future for autistic people. With your help, we can make it happen.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the Leeds 10K for National Autistic Society, a cause that is very close to my heart for a number of reasons. Firstly for Dylan (the son of my best friend) the funiest, sweetest & most technology literate child you could wish to meet and secondly for the children I have had the honour of working with who are also on the spectrum. I have witnessed first hand how misunderstood people with autism are and how little there is out there in terms of support needed. More needs to be done to raise awareness of Autism as many people have misunderstood conceptions and see them as the 'naughty children'. By raising money for National Autistc Society the money  goes towards helping raise awareness, research, development, educational facilities and training. Helping people living with autisim live the life they want to lead.

National Autistic Society pledges to ' transform understanding of autism and make sure everyone living with autism gets the support they need'.

National Autistic Society defines Autism as...

'Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them.

It is a spectrum condition, which means that, while all people with autism share certain difficulties, their condition will affect them in different ways. Some people with autism are able to live relatively independent lives but others may have accompanying learning disabilities and need a lifetime of specialist support. People with autism may also experience over- or under-sensitivity to sounds, touch, tastes, smells, light or colours.' (www.autism.org.uk)

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, all donations are greatly appreciated.
