Story
On the 4th May 2016, we sadly lost our Nana to Sepsis. It was not until we received her death certificate that we were aware she had passed away of this illness. None of us really understood what Sepsis was or how fatal it can be.
Sepsis is triggered when an infection causes the body's immune system to go into overdrive damaging its own organs.
Sepsis, or blood poisoning, is a potentially fatal disease that can be brought on by an infection, insect bite or even just a cut. Every year in the UK 44,000 people die from Sepsis, which is more than bowel, breast and colon cancer combined. 1,000 of those deaths are children. Sepsis is also the biggest direct cause of death in pregnancy. And if those stats weren't bad enough, someone with Sepsis is 5 times more likely to die than someone who has just suffered a heart attack.
To mark what would have been her 85th Birthday, on the 6th August 2017, my brother Joe and I are each going to complete an Olympic Triathlon!
10K Run
40K Cycle
1.5K Swim
Eek!
We hope you will all agree with us that this is a worthy cause, and we appreciate you supporting us in anyway you can!
Thank you,
Emma and Joe
