Story
Hello All!
Thank you so much for stopping by my page!
It’s been 10 years since I last ran a Half Marathon and it’s also been 10 years since I started working with a very special boy, Billy (soon to be a man) who has been living with Tourette Syndrome all of his young life.
The common misconception some make is that Tourettes exhibits as a vocal tic; specifically involuntary swearing. This is absolutely not the only symptom or how the condition should be defined. Mistakenly, Tourette Syndrome is often mocked for how some symptoms manifest and this ongoing stigma can have very negative and ongoing effects for people living with the condition.
Tourette Syndrome is an inherited, neurological condition, the key features of which are tics, involuntary and uncontrollable sounds and movements. TS is a complex condition and many people with the condition will also experience co-occurring features and conditions.
Many of the symptoms are not visible to people who do not suffer and some can cause extreme pain both mentally and physically.
Despite my one-on-one work ending with Billy when he left primary school, I am now lucky enough to be a part of his wonderful little family and I hope I can help raise awareness of this neurological condition and fundraise some much-needed funds in the process.
I have seen how Tourette Syndrome has impacted Billy; through physical and mental pain, the psychological impact of bullying and the effect it still has on his self-esteem. Despite all of these adversities, Billy continues to meet Tourettes defiantly head on!
So please, donate whatever you can, every little really does help and thank you for taking the time to visit my page.
