Story
I first met Jett at a birthday party... I was dressed as a mermaid and he was drawn to the sparkles on my outfit!
It was my godson's 3rd birthday party and Jett (also aged 3) was one of his friends. At the time, apart from his attraction to sparkly things Jett didn't seem that different from the other kids, but I discovered that this would change quite quickly as time went on.
Jett is now 9 years old and has Muscular Dystrophy. This means (in simple terms) that his muscles are slowly waste away, giving him aches and pains, and eventually means he will lose his ability to walk. His heart and ability to breathe are also affected and he struggles cognitively.
This is caused by a missing bit of DNA, meaning that his body can't repair itself, and there is no cure.
Over the last 6 years I've really got to know Jett. He is an amazing, lively character, full of interest, and passionate about rock music (Iron Maiden is his favourite band). He is extremely creative and loves being outdoors with his younger brother and sister. And he also struggles. He already needs a wheelchair to get out and about and has additional learning support. Over time he is likely to be confined to a bed, and his life expectancy is short.
On 25th June I'll be walking 50km in the Cotswolds (taking an estimated 12-16 hours) to raise funds for Jett via the Jett Pack. As part of our training, we also hope to complete the Yorkshire 3-peaks challenge in May.
ADDED: inspired by all the training I've been doing I've decided to walk the coast to coast path from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay (Wainwright's coast to coast) from 8th August. It's 194 miles in total, and I'll be doing it solo with my tent (with a couple of rest stops in B+Bs) over 3 weeks! Decided to keep sponsorship open for this :)
The Jett Pack is a family charity, with Muscular Dystrophy UK (MDUK). This means that a proportion of all funds raised go directly to Jett and the remainder to MDUK towards research into treatment for the disease and hopefully one day a cure.
Choosing to sponsor us means that your donations will go towards providing a better, ongoing quality of life for Jett, and others struggling with this challenging disease.
Thank you!
