Story
On the 7th of January 2013 I will be departing the UK to spend 3 months volunteering in Burkina Faso, a country in West Africa.
Myself and a small group of other 18-25's from the UK, will work as part of the International Citizen Service. ICS is a government backed project designed to fight poverty and make a lasting difference by working with local people to meet local needs.
As part of my commitment to ICS, I have been asked to fundraise before going overseas. The money I raise will go towards supporting the work of International Service (one of six organisations that implement the ICS scheme) and will enable them to continue sending youth volunteers to the developing world.
As well as West Africa, International Service also work in Latin America and the Middle East. Their aim is to combat poverty and oppression, focusing specifically on the rights of people with disabilities, women, children and young people.
Currently, the exact project I will be involved with hasn't been decided but if you are interested to find out more about the possibilities click here.
Thank you for taking time to read about this exciting opportunity. If you would like to follow my progress please visit my blog at www.myvolunteeringadventure.wordpress.com
