Fundraising for Royal British Legion Industries
A growing group of staff from Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust, have joined together to swap their warm beds to take part in Royal British Legion Industries’ The Great Tommy Sleep Out on 29th March in support of veterans.
Emma Colley and Sarah Millington from the Princess Royal Hospitals Emergency Department have explained why this is important to them - “We are incredibly aware that’s it’s only one night and it will likely be cold and probably wet but again it’s one night, it’s highly likely that some of the veterans the RBL helps with homelessness and other issues are our patients, our patients family members, our colleagues and we wholeheartedly want to support them and show our appreciation for their military service.”
The group of willing volunteers has grown to include Dr’s, Nurses, HCA’s, Clinical and Non Clinical support staff, our Data protection officer, our people promise manager to name a few.
We will sleep outside on the Wrekin for one night to raise awareness of the issue of veteran homelessness, drawing attention to veterans that are homeless in Shrewsbury and Telford and all across the UK right now. It will be cold and probably wet and the Wrekin is fairly isolated, likely how some of the veterans the RBL helps have felt at one time or another.
