Story

Hello friend,

In just a few weeks we're attempting to run 10 whole kilometers.  Believe it or not, we're not doing it for fun either!  We're doing it to raise money for Connect.

Connect is a charity for people living with aphasia, a communication disability which usually occurs after a stroke or brain injury. Most of us take for granted our ability to communicate and if you try, it's hard to even imagine not being able to talk to our loved ones, to write an email or read a book. Aphasia can rob you of these basic things. Connect helps by supporting people with aphasia to regain confidence and re-connect with life.

It's fair to say our approach to training for the run has been sporadic, so we're not overly confident in our abilities to complete the course with any measure of dignity. It would be a massive boost to us on the day to know that we're raising lots of money for a charity that really, really needs it.

Thanks!

Emma and Sarah

About the charity

Connect is a national charity for people living with aphasia (communication disability) which is often caused by stroke. Aphasia can strike anyone at any age and at any time. 1 in every 200 people in the UK lives with aphasia and each person experiences it differently. Some people cannot speak at all, some people have just a few words. It affects reading, writing and numbers. Aphasia can lead to lack of confidence, depression, social exclusion – and people can lose their connection with the world. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Our vision is a simple one, we want a world where people with aphasia can re-connect with life again. Find out more about how we do that at www.ukconnect.org
