Story
Thank you so much for visiting my page! Over the last year I have been taking part in an array of physical activities to help raise money for Maggie's Centres in memory of my friend Rachel. Maggie's is a charity I had never heard of until Rachel was introduced to the services they provide for people going through cancer.
I think Maggie's is amazing because it provides emotional support during one of the most lonely and emotionally draining situations imaginable. The services they provide range from counselling, to make up tutorials for those going through chemo or even just a cup of tea and chat. Providing invaluable respite from hospital treatments which of course are amazing but can be dehumanising and exhausting. Maggie's help to see the person and I think their motto of ‘everyones home during cancer’ couldn’t be more true.
The Great North Run is something which I feel extremely honoured to be able to take part in in memory of Rachel. It is something she said that she would like to take part in it one day, so it is very fitting that we can run it in tribute to her. Team Gillie, founded by Rachel’s brother Adam have all been working hard over the year to raise money for this great cause and we are gradually making our way towards the ambitious target of £50000.
