Fundraising for Transverse Myelitis Society
Story
I have chosen this charity as a close friend of my mum was suddenly struck down with this debilitating illness a few years ago and has been coping with it ever since.
She has set up a local support group and one of the things they are raising money for is to send children and their families to a summer camp.
Transvere Myelitlis is a rare auto-immune neurological condition which causes inflammatory attacks to the central nervous system.
Symptoms include muscle weakness, paralysis, neuropathic pain and parasthesias.
Onset of illness can be from infancy to older adults.
TM affects people in very different ways and no two people have exactly the same symptoms or experience of TM.
Olympic distance triathlon involves a 1,500m swim, 36.5km bike, 10km run. I have never attempted this distance before as a solo.
