Story
On the 2nd April 2023, I will be taking on my first ever running challenge by running the London Landmarks Half Marathon for Pancreatic Cancer UK, a charity whose focus is to transform the futures of those affected by pancreatic cancer.
Pancreatic cancer is the UK's 5th biggest cancer killer and has the lowest 5-year survival rate of all the 22 most common cancers. This is largely attributed to late diagnosis due to a number of reasons including; no simple screening or diagnostic tool, vague symptoms (such as sore tummy, sore back, fatigue, loss of appetite), low public awareness, and also low awareness & confidence in diagnosing within the health care profession. This needs to change, which is why I am choosing to run for Pancreatic Cancer UK and help raise awareness.
Sadly, this is also an illness which is very close to home. We lost my my amazing Nanny to this brutal disease in June 2021, as well as my great Nanny Til back in 1999. We, as a family, were by my Nanny's side through the challenges and complications of her diagnosis and illness. It was a confusing and frustrating time for her, and I believe causes such as Pancreatic Cancer UK, are pivotal in helping other people and their families in navigating this disease with the ambition to increase early diagnosis and ultimately improve the outcome.
It would mean the world to me if could spare a couple of pennies (however big or small) to support this wonderful cause. Thank you so much in advance for visiting my page and donating whatever you can, it really will make a big difference.
