Story
Thankyou so much for visiting my Just Giving page.
I am raising money for BRIGHT, a charity that funds research into world leading cancer treatments. My sister Jo, was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer last year and she has been through a long journey of surgery and chemotherapy, with great bravery.
She has been under the care of the brillant team at the Royal Surrey County Hospital throughout her treatment. Dr Dhillion (Jo’s oncologist) and Mr Frampton/Mr Lahiri (the surgeons who performed her Whipples surgery) are leading members of BRIGHT. The charity is based at the Royal Surrey and raises funds to support ongoing research and treatment options for patients with pancreatic and other HPB (hepatic pancreatic biliary) cancers. This is a cause that is very close to my heart, not only because of the incredible care and treatment Jo has received, but also because I work as a nurse at the Royal Surrey and I get to see first hand the positive impact their work has on so many patients’ lives.
We received the fantastic news from Dr Dhillion, just before Christmas, that Jo is finally clear of cancer. My family could not be more grateful to the whole team for her care and treatment. Everyone diagnosed deserves to get that phone call, and further research into cancer treatments is the key to giving other people the best possible chance to overcome this disease.
I am going to take part in the Brighton Half Marathon in February. I chose Brighton with the idea that it would probably be flat along the seafront but the route mentions panoramic views (slightly alarming). I really find it difficult to ask for money but this is such an important cause and I know that the funds raised will make a difference. Times are tough for everyone at the moment but any amount donated is greatly appreciated, and for the record……I’m really not that keen on running!
Thankyou x
