We want to give patients better access to therapies to aid their recovery. This will include outdoor facilities to improve the patients’ mobility and provide a more interesting form of exercise.

Story

Those of you who know us well will know that Dad has very recently been discharged from Frimley Park Hospital Acute Stroke Unit after an 8 week stay as a result of a deep blood clot on his brain. This follows a previous bleed on his brain a few years back where he was treated in the same unit. He has returned home with life changing injuries including no speech, reduced mobility, progressed dementia and a permanent feeding tube into his stomach. This has put a huge strain on our family, both emotionally and physically, but we can’t be more thankful that he has returned home. If it was not for the advanced care, facilities and dedication of all of the wonderful doctors and nurses that work tirelessly to help patients in that unit (and those that work in the community to continue to support us) we know that Dad would have seen out his remaining life in a care home. We are so thankful for this.

To show our thanks to the phenomenal team, Soph, I and my husband Lee are taking part in the Run Frimley 10k race. It's no marathon but this is a first in terms of any competitive race for us! We’ve launched one consolidated fundraising page so we're not all pestering you separately!

So here comes our plea for any small donations you might be prepared to give to this amazing cause. There's a target to raise a whopping £750k and 100% of the money raised by Run Frimley will go to the hospital’s Stroke Appeal to support the development of the stroke unit into one of the best in the country. Anything we can contribute will aid the rehabilitation of others. The extensive team and facilities that are involved in any single patients treatment and recovery really do make all the difference.

Dad won't know how much effort we're already giving to our training or the dedication all 3 of us have to smash this race and unfortunately he doesn't have the voice to cheer us along on race day BUT he'll be so humble for any support you can give, as will Soph, Lee and myself.

Thanks y'all xx
