Story

Thanks for visiting my 'updated' fundraising page.

26th April 2010 - My job is done - such incredible support both on the sidelines and online - and its still coming!

26.2 miles completed. All body parts intact, no injuries, just aches and pains which is only to be expected. Such an amazing day - I still cant believe I've done it!!!

You have all, individually, helped me surpass my wildest dreams and expectations, and for that I thank you from the bottom of my heart. And for Rosa - you are an inspiration to us all and a truly special friend - thank you.

1st April 2010 - Three weeks to go and radiotherapy under way!

Currently, no injuries or muscle pains and only one more long run to go - 18 miles!

Rosa started her radiotherapy this week which is going to plan - she's still smiling and staying strong. We are both bracing ourselves for a challenging few weeks, what with hair loss and exhaustion only to be expected, and thats just me!! I am amazed at how generous people have been in supporting the two of us in our individual endeavours, and to do Rosa proud I have 'upped the stakes' attempting to raise at least £2000 for the tumours! Please, please spread the word and encourage others to support us, and many others like Rosa.

1st February 2010 - "Emily the runner" is back for the Virgin 2010!!

No sacro-iliac pain currently, training is going well and my running cause has just taken on a whole new dimension. Unfortunately, Rosa had to undergo a third brain operation in December last year as her brain tumour had regrown quite considerably. Having recovered from this incredibly well she is now preparing to undergo a six week course of radiotherapy with the hope of cure. If she can get through all of this, then I can 'bloody' run 26 miles and also raise atleast £1000 towards brain tumours. Rosa has made three very impressive recoveries now, thanks to a very skilled surgeon and his team, but without the up-to date resources available, Rosa's story might not be so promising and optimistic. So with both of us embarking on a new challenge, mine being obselete in comparison, I'm sending out a new plea to dig deep and help me raise money for an important cause and amazingly strong-willed girlie!!!!

Despite injuring myself four weeks before the London Marathon last year, I have been able to carry forward my ballot place for this year and use the same Just Giving page allowing you to top up on the monies raised already to date. For all those already donated...thank you so much for your support, and to rest....I endeavour to do you all (and Rosa) proud this year!

Below is last year's plea....

By pure fluke, one might say, I was lucky enough to get a ballot place in the London Marathon this year. However, I'm always up for doing challenges for good causes and so I have chosen to use this opportunity to raise money for a cause close to my heart.

In 2007, one of my best friends was diagnosed with a brain tumour, a condition which for the majority of individuals leads to rapid deterioration and death within months. Rosa had a very rare brain tumour, which would have caused death by pressure on her brain. If she had not undergone intensive brain surgery she would not be here today, back to her beautiful smiling self. For this simple fact, I want to raise awareness of brain tumours and be thankful for what was achieved in 2007. Rosa is one of very few to have survived a brain tumour - please help me raise money for further research so that more people, their families and friends, can survive this tragic disease also.

It is often dubbed the forgotten cancer, but brain tumour mortality rates have barely changed over the past 20 years......please dig deep and help support me as I battle through my 26 miles for a great cause!!

Thank you very much.
