Raising Funds for the latest keyhole equipment for Bowel Cancer and Related Conditions at both Grimsby and Scunthorpe Hospital

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The invaluable work that both NHS staff and equipment undertake 24/7 to ensure our health, is something none of us should take for granted. The Health Tree Foundation fundraises to support our local communities; providing funds for our NHS hospitals to purchase life- changing equipment and resources in order to help us, their patients.

"The much needed funds raised in various ways around North and North East Lincolnshire and the East Riding of Yorkshire allow us to carry on working in partnership with the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. They provide acute hospital and community services to over 350,000 people in those areas. Which means your small change really does make a big difference."
- The Health Tree Foundation.

I myself have received care from Grimsby hospital during (and even before) my birth. Since then, I have witnessed the care that the hospital has provided for many of my family and friends, including my Grandad who was recently given the all clear from bladder cancer. My other late Grandad had endured prostate cancer for my whole lifetime, but thanks to the care he received from the NHS, for many years you wouldn't have known. He sadly passed away 4 years ago, but never once lost his spirit throughout his cancer battle; furthermore, the nurse care he received towards the end of his life was second to none. My mother, being an NHS nurse herself for 30 years, knows the struggles of working for a service that so desperately needs more funding. However, like her, show me an NHS staff member who isn't determined to make a difference, regardless of this crippling lack of financial support.

I have personally used Grimsby A&E department (turns out you're not meant to stroke calves else their mothers get angry), having had several scans and x-rays in my 22 years. How lucky are we that we can walk into a hospital and be treated for no fee, by such highly trained and wonderful professionals. We can't lose this wonderful service that is free at the point of use; we are so lucky to have it and it is crucial that we take good care of it.

Finally, I work in a school in Grimsby where many of the pupils I teach have undergone investigations, scans or treatment at either Grimsby, Scunthorpe, or Goole hospital. As part of their PSHE work, I have taught the children about the importance of our public services, such as our NHS, and also the value of carrying out acts of kindness. I think they'll be thrilled to support me in this journey to encompass them both, and I'm so excited and grateful for the opportunity to do something I've always wanted to do, while helping others along the way.

Grandad, this one's in your memory.

Thank you for your time, and if you're feeling generous, your donation too. It's much appreciated!
