Story
During the Coronavirus Pandemic support for mental health has become more important than ever, with 1 in 4 of us suffering with mental health issues at sometime within our lives. This is why on the 23rd May 2021, we will be running the Great Manchester Run Half marathon to raise money for the amazing charity Mind. This is the first time either of us has done any event like this so it will be difficult, but we know it will definitely be worth it!
We have both been impacted by mental health issues, whether that be ourselves or friends and family.
Emily
Recently, I have struggled with my own mental health however the support and resources that mind provide, were life-changing and helped pull me out of one of the darkest periods of my life. Dealing with mental health issues can be a lonely place but Mind make sure there is always someone to talk to. During these times, knowing I wasn’t alone, and someone was there for me that understood how I was feeling was comforting and made such an impact. One way of improving and maintaining my mental health, is exercise! Whether that be going to the gym or going on a run, it always seems to lift my mood so I thought there would be no better way to raise money.

A ‘mental health’ illness may not be visible like a physical illness, but this does not undervalue the importance of being aware of its implications. We are all susceptible to mental health problems through stress, pressure, or depression. This is why Mind charity is pivotal. Mind charity offers support, resources, counselling and much more for people across the UK who struggle with their mental health. As Emily mentioned she herself had relied upon the support of Mind and could not thank them enough. Mental health will continue to affect people’s lives and this is why charity’s like Mind need to be funded and supported so that they can continue to give life changing support for people. To help manage my mental well-being I love to exercise which involves running, going on walks and going to the gym! I thought that there would be no better way to raise money for this charity. Donations of any size can help save someone’s life like it did for my friend.
Let’s support mental health and make it a priority! Donations can help someone in desperate need of support by letting the Mind Infoline team answer their call or could help them campaign for and allow better access to talking therapies, crisis care and other essential mental health services and resources. Let’s try to make sure no one goes through this alone! Any donation whether that be big or small will be appreciated and can make a huge difference to someone’s life!
Thank you so much,
Em and Sasha xx
