Story
Hi! My name is Emily and in June 2020 I am going to Tanzania in Africa to volunteer as a dental nurse with Bridge 2 Aid.
Bridge 2 Aid help to train local healthcare workers in the provision of emergency dental treatment. They help provide local health workers with the essential skills they need to improve the lives of people in these local communities for the long term. Bridge2Aid believes that everybody has the right to safe emergency dental care. Since 2004 Bridge2Aid has provided training which has given access to safe emergency dental care for over 5 million people in Tanzania. They have done this through sending volunteers from the UK dental community to train rural health workers.
In Tanzania I will be part of the oral health team, I will be educating the local health workers on good oral hygiene and tooth brushing techniques to enable them to go on to teach this. I will also be educating them on cross infection and sterilisation procedures. I will be assisting the dentists who are coming to volunteer with me and give support with the emergency dental treatment. This training will improve the lives of people within their local communities long term, as I will be leaving behind knowledge and skills that they can keep with them.
To partake in this project I must raise £1,750. This money will cover the costs of my flights, accommodation, and support I receive while I am there. Any donations would be greatly appreciated to help me with this amazing opportunity and journey.
Thank you!
Emily :-)
