Story
On Sunday 8th March 2020 I will be doing a 26.2 hour sofa marathon.
Yes thats right, for 26 hours and 12 minutes I will be staying put on my sofa and I'll be documenting my experience throughout the day on my social media account:
https://www.instagram.com/emilyspence__/
I'll be allowed to pop to the toilet when required but other than that I will spend the entire 26 hours and 12 minutes on my sofa with all the food/drink I need delivered to me.
My aims for the challenge are to:
- Raise money for the eating disorder charity Beat.
- Raise awareness of eating disorders and the recovery from them during Eating Disorder Awareness Week 2020.
- Empower others by showing that rest, an essential element of the recovery process, is not only ok, it's good! During the challenge I'll be using my Instagram account as a platform to discuss the importance of rest in recovery and beyond.
This may not be your typical sponsored challenge but, as someone who has personally struggled with Anorexia, fund-raising for Eating Disorders in a non-active way is something I feel passionate about. For those who have never struggled with an eating disorder this challenge may not seem as tough as running a marathon or swimming 10K, but those with experience of eating disorders will know that this is anything but the case.
Beat is the UK's eating disorder charity, with a vision to end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders. They offer an incredible service giving sufferers and their loved ones a place where they feel listened to, supported and empowered. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity.
