Story
Nearly three years ago I was reclassed as severely sight impaired (blind) and so began a new chapter in my life. To get the confidence to get back to running (post children and post 40 as well!) has taken a lot of personal strength and help from a number of people. Small steps have got me back to something I never thought I would do again. This year I have run across the old Severn Bridge (10k) and am now hoping to complete the Great South Run (10m). I would not be able to complete either of these without my friendly guides Ruth and Emma!
I’m raising money to support Aniridia Network and their aim to hold a unique conference in the UK. This organisation provides support, information and community for those with the condition and their families.
This conference is the only European forum for bringing together the best eye doctors, researchers, vision scientists and geneticists as well as patients from around the globe. It accelerates the development of better treatments and hugely improves patient care. "There are a number of exciting possibilities for the treatment of aniridia now arising from research. The conference will examine the possibilities and how the research in areas such as stem cell therapy and drugs might move from the lab to the clinic.
Consultant Ophthalmologist.”Together the professionals and patients form a winning community focused on finding effective treatments for all aspect of aniridia. It is only possible thanks to donations from various sources”.
