Story
In under two months’ time I will be running the New York Marathon, my first attempt at a marathon distance.
I am raising money on behalf of Stroke Association in support of a close friend who has recently suffered a stroke. All too often we take the simple things for granted and it’s only when they are no longer simple that you realise how much you enjoyed doing them despite how painful they were at the time; like many of the training runs I have completed! I know he would give anything just to be able to run again so this is for him and will keep me going when things get tough in New York.
Over 100,000 people suffer a stroke each year, that’s the equivalent of one every 5 minutes. Statistics show that 1/3 of stroke patients make a full recovery, 1/3 have long terms effects which are often not visible to others and sadly 1/3 do not survive. The Stroke Association in Jersey is a branch of the larger UK Stroke Association and is for local people whose lives have been affected by a stroke, whether a stroke survivor or their family and friends. The charity offers a wide range of services including weekly peer support groups and hydrotherapy sessions and there is a huge reliance on support from the community in Jersey as no states funding is received.
I would be very grateful for any donation to this wonderful charity as i start increasing the training miles in anticipation of the big event on 4th November.
*Note; all money raised through my Just Giving page will remain in Jersey to help support Stroke Association Jersey.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
