Story
Helen and Douglas House provide respite and end of life care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions. Remarkably, it is a very positive and light place where the emphasis is on living life to the full even when that life may be short.
They offer emotional and medical support to the whole family affected and truly are invaluable. Money cannot buy what they offer, yet they rely on public donations to continue to be able to support the many families that they currently help. It costs £4.5m a year to run.
Helen House holds a very sad, but special, place in the hearts of me and my family and offered amazing support through an exceptionally difficult time. I always try to give back to them whenever I can, so on April 17th 2011, I am aiming to fulfil a long time ambition of mine by completing (yes, I’m being positive here!) the Virgin London Marathon.
I am so excited to have a place and very proud to be running for Helen and Douglas House. I know I have a gruelling winter ahead of training, but I also know it will be worth it to cross that line after 26.2 miles having achieved a personal goal whilst raising money for such a wonderful cause.
And as I train – long jogs, short runs, hills, fartleks, dark nights, early mornings, sunny days, rainy days, blizzard days, icy winds, runs that make me smile, ones that make me cry, blisters, muscle aches, lost toe nails, and the event itself - each step I take will be for Romy – here for such a short time, but in our hearts forever.
Thank you for every penny you donate – it will go immediately where it's needed to help families going through very difficult times. Xxxxx
