Story

So here goes… I’m running the London Marathon in 2022 both in memory of my beautiful friend Jess, and to mark the courage of my wonderful mum Rita.

Let’s raise awareness and show meningitis that it has no place in our world!

Mum defeated meningitis in 2013 but it’s impact will always be with us. Two months on full life support and a total of six months in hospital. Both legs amputated and blind in one eye. But in the words of Mum “I’m still here, what do I have to complain about?”.  Remarkable. Mum is an outstanding role model to many and a daily reminder that we have so much to be grateful for. This illness is savage, striking hard and fast.

Jess on the other hand, wasn’t so fortunate. Young, beautiful, and so much to live for. Jess left us in 2020 following her short battle. Cruel. Jess… you’re always in my thoughts, your smile locked safely in my heart. Sorely missed, a truly beautiful soul, and so very loved.

Meningitis is deadly; killing and seriously disabling in hours. Small children and young adults are high risk, but all ages can be affected. Globally 1,000 people die daily. We fundraise to invest in research, campaign for vaccines, provide symptom information and support those already affected.
