Story
In November 2019, I had a call from the husband of one of my best friends (Gayle Logan) to say that she had been diagnosed with leukaemia. Gayle is an incredible woman - brave and unbelievably determined. She had a stem cell transplant last summer mid COVID-19 - its been a very tough 14 months for her and her family and the fight continues but she battles on and she is just brilliant!
I was living in the USA at the time of diagnosis and felt useless that I couldn't do more to help - so Fi and I (friends from Sandhurst) swore that we would do what we could to help her and that one day we would do an event in order to raise money for this incredible charity that has given her the chance to beat this disease. So over the next 12 months myself and Fi are each going to walk or run 1000 miles - most separately, some together if COVID ever allows as she lives in Wales! So by 31 December 2021 we should have completed 2000 miles of hiking and running across the Welsh mountains, Salisbury Plain and hopefully some of the Jurassic coastline.
I will be charting my progress on Strava which will not be very interesting but I will complete my 1000 miles for this amazing charity and for my incredible friend, Gayle.
Every day, Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with a blood cancer or blood disorder. We do this by matching incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells to people who desperately need a lifesaving transplant. We also carry out cutting edge scientific research, fund specialist post-transplant nurses and support patients and their families through the transplant process and beyond. We won’t stop until we save the lives of everyone who needs a stem cell transplant. Every penny you donate brings us closer to that day.
