In 2022 I made a resolution to get back into running and after over a month of progress I completed my first 10k and decided to sign up to run the Manchester 10k to motivate myself to carry on running. I wanted to raise money for a charity while doing so, so I chose a charity with a cause close to my heart . . . 

Loosing my mum was and still is the hardest challenge I have faced in life Not only do I grieve for the amazing women we lost but I grieve for what could have been. For the memories we never got the chance to make and the mother daughter relationship I long for everyday. Some days pass and and I miss her but I’m okay while other days minor things remind me of her and tears fill my eyes and all I want is a hug from my mum and to tell her about all the things she’s missed.  I am extremely lucky to have such amazing and supportive family /friends who always provide me with a shoulder to cry on but sometimes you just wish you could speak to someone who understands your pain.

I chose the charity Winston's Wish because they offer that support to children and young people, not only do they provide 1-1 support for children and young people but they always have support groups in which children/young people can speak to others who have experienced/experiencing the same pain. I was extremely lucky that I received support throughout my grief process from teaching staff, and counsellors. Being able to raise money for a charity which supports grieving children/young people after loosing a parent is something I am extremely passionate about no child/ young person should have to face the journey of grief alone. 

If loosing a parent at a young age has taught me anything it’s to make the most of the time you get with those you love, life’s too short! Treasure every moment and memory, capture every moment with a photo because one day you’ll be so glad you did!
