Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In March 2023 I am going to spend nearly three weeks in Malawi, using my skills and knowledge in dentistry to help those who need it the most. My mum (who is a Dentist), will be partnering me in the work - so we can help as many people as possible whilst we are there.
We all know what it's like to have painful teeth and as a Dental Therapist, I want to treat people who are suffering with no way of getting help.
Dentaid is a charity that improves oral health in the UK and around the world. Sadly, there are 1.7 billion people in the world who are suffering from toothache and 70 per cent of the population doesn’t have access to a dentist. Dentaid’s overseas work, involves supporting dental professionals in some of the poorest and most remote communities in the world. The charity funds outreach clinics and sends teams of volunteers to work alongside its dental partners, running dental clinics in schools, orphanages, refugee camps and remote community buildings.
As a Dentaid volunteer, I’ll be working with local dental partners to provide safe, free dental treatment for some of the poorest and most remote communities in the world. Each day our team will help hundreds of people out of dental pain. Oral health education is a key part of Dentaid’s work, so we will also be running oral health and toothbrushing programmes to promote dental health, so we can have a lasting positive impact.
Dentaid volunteers are encouraged to fundraise £2500 which pays for flights, accommodation, travel within Malawi, meals on working days, and all the dental supplies needed to provide free care for thousands of people.
What's coming up ?
To raise money for Dentaid, I will be undertaking the
National Three Peaks challenge in September 2022, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell
Pike and Snowdon - the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales in ‘one
go’. There will be other local fundraising activities too so, please keep your
eye on my page for updates / news.
Please donate whatever you can to this worthwhile charity.
Thank you
