Story
When Newcastle started its research into cancer 40 years ago, mortality from the disease was at a peak in the UK. Since then, cancer survival rates have doubled in part because of the efforts of people at Newcastle. But cancer still accounts for a quarter of all deaths in the UK, and peoples lives are still being cut short because we have work to do. 1 in 2 people in the UK will receive a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. To ensure that the tides in the battle against cancer remain in our favour, we need you to join us on our mission.By donating or fundraising for the Newcastle University Cancer Fund you can make a direct difference in the lab, where researchers fight every day for people all over the world who live with cancer.
A lovely colleague of mine, Tracy Sinton, tragically lost her little boy, Joseph, at aged 10 after being in remission from cancer. Tracy fundraisers tirelessly, year round for the Future Fund and if I can give back a little bit to this amazing charity then I’ll have done well. I have signed up for the GNR 2023 (my 5th one), and have (some may say stupidly) entered the Edinburgh marathon 2024. I have never ran marathon distance, but knowing I am doing it for such an amazing little boys memory will definitely carry me around the course.
Please give as much or as little as you can in memory of a beautiful little boy. Thank you so much.
