Story
For my gap year I am going to Kolkata, India to work with street children and women who live in the slums and red light district
In September I am going to be part of BMS Action teams gap year programme. This involves a months training before I go to Kolkata, India for six months with three other amazing young people to get stuck in with some inspiring projects. These include an education programme and baby day care centre for street children. There is also a children's hostel where we will be involved teaching children English alongside providing other fun activities for them. Going to India is an opportunity I am very privileged to have and I am aware that as a young women I have been very fortunate to get a fantastic education and have so many life choices that this provides for me. I'm therefore really looking forward to getting involved with two more projects seeking to empower women in Kolkata. Connexions is a training centre working with women from the slums and Freeset is a Fairtrade business offering employment to women in Kolkata's red light district. Following return from India, I will spend two further months with my team going around the UK telling people who have supported us what we got up to!
I will be keeping a blog on the BMS website throughout the year to keep people up to date with what I've been doing. This will be available here from September: www.actionteamblogs.org
As a contribution to BMS for this gap year, I need to raise £4500 by August 31st 2018 which is going to be a challenge for me in my final busy months of A levels. However I am planning some fundraising events and also trusting God to provide the finances for this next year because I believe that this is his plan for me. I am very grateful for any financial support you can give me and if you believe in these amazing projects in Kolkata, even the smallest of donations will enable me to go and contribute to these projects in person.
Thank you for your support! Keep an eye out on my Facebook for details of fundraising events coming up!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The money donated through Just Giving is going directly to BMS World Mission. This money will count towards the £4500 that I have to raise as a contribution towards the total cost of the programme.
