Story

Hi I'm Emily

I'm running the junior GNR in memory of my Dad Steven Thomas Dunn who I sadly lost on 21st December 2010. I want to tell you a little about him and the reason I'm running the GNR.

My Dad joined the army straight from school it was all he ever wanted to do. After being posted with 216 (Parachute) Signals squadron he undertook a number of deployments overseas including Iraq Afghanistan and Kenya. He also successfully completed P company a tough training selection course he had to undertake before getting his para wings. He loved jumping out of planes, it was what he was meant to do. Then in 2010 my life changed we got the phone call that no one ever wants to receive. When on deployment in Afghanistan the jakel vehicle he was traveling in went over an IED, my Dad was the only fatality that day. I was 6 years old at the time and I'm still grieving to this day. He was my Newcastle Utd mad hero.

My mum signed me up with the charity Scotty's Little Soldiers who help other kids like me.  They have three different support streams; "smiles" - including Scotty's breaks, Christmas parties and gift vouchers on remembrance day, "support" and "strides" including a Scotty's allowance to help with costs for activities - I use mine for my kick boxing!

I would like to raise as much money as possible to give something back to this amazing charity. Which has helped me so much. So I will be running the junior great north run on 7th September 2019. Wish me luck.
