Story
Everyone has places and people that are special to them, for me it is Bristol Children’s Hospital.
As a result of being born four months premature I was left with cerebral palsy. Consequently, I have some spasticity which mainly affects my right leg. Despite some of the mobility challenges that my disability presents me with, I consider myself very lucky as I am more or less able to live my life like the rest of my family and friends.
In order to get myself to where I am today it has taken a lot of grit and determination. However, I fully recognise that if it were not for the incredible people at Bristol and the outstanding care that they offer, things may be very different .
From the age of six right up until my eighteenth birthday I was lucky enough to be a patient at the hospital. Throughout the twelve years, the care that I have received has been absolutely fantastic. If it were not for the various operations that they performed in particular, I fully appreciate that I may be living a very different life to what I know today.
In May this year I turned eighteen. Therefore, it was time for me to leave the children’s hospital and move elsewhere. However, I do not want to fully say goodbye without ensuring that I give back to the place and people that have given so much to me.
So…I have set myself a challenge! Over three days (25th-27th August 2021) I will be rowing, cycling and running the distance from my house to the hospital which comes to a total of one hundred miles. Over the three days I will begin by rowing and cycling in the gym before going outside to run. Just over thirty-seven miles of the challenge will be done through rowing and running, the rest will be done on the bike.
I know that this challenge will be difficult for me both physically and mentally. However, I also know that there is no fun in making things easy for yourself!
I am desperate to raise as much money as possible for a place that is incredibly close to my heart. Therefore, if you could please take the time to share this page and/or donate to ensure that it reaches as many people as possible it would be hugely appreciated.
