Story
I joined the board of Achieve Now a year ago because I believe that literacy is a fundamental right for all and the key to the entire world.
Philadelphia schools closed on March 13th as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak, resulting in a 391-hour instructional deficit in the 2019-2020 school year for some of America's most vulnerable children. This year, Philadelphia schools are opening in an all-virtual model, and Achieve Now has followed suit by transitioning our research-based phonics curriculum to fit remote learning! With your gift, no matter the size, you can help us provide high-quality, one-on-one, virtual literacy instruction to at-risk children.
Since 2015, Achieve Now has been working to bring all students up to grade-level reading to improve their chances of future success. Many of our students come to us as struggling readers but graduate the program with an average improvement of three grade levels in their reading scores! Our research-based curriculum is delivered by trained volunteers who invest one hour per week for the entire school year to building literacy skills, self confidence, and a love of reading in their students.
The "new normal" for this school year has made the work Achieve Now does more important than ever, but we need your help. You can sponsor high-quality literacy lessons to ensure the children that need it most have the personalized instruction they need to access opportunity.
Join us on our journey to bring all students in Philadelphia up to grade-level reading!
