Story
I will be taking part in a sponsored walk from Archway School to Haresfield Beacon and back again. The distance will be 8848m which is the height of Mount Everest in Nepal. Nepal is also the location of our international partner school, Shree Chandee Adarsha Saral Secondary School in Lalitpur, Nepal.
Two years ago there was a devastating earthquake in Nepal that killed 9000 and left many more homeless and with work and other opportunities disrupted. The students at our partner school were already poor yet many now found themselves without family members, housing or a means of supporting themselves. As a consequence, the community at Archway School raised about £10,000 and this enabled 50 of the most vulnerable students to be supported in their education over the last two years. The money paid for uniforms, shoes, stationary items as well as a school lunches and ability travel by bus when needed. It also paid the rent for several children who were homeless and without the support of a family. That money is now running out and so we are hoping to raise enough to support 50 students for the next year as well. Once children drop out of school it is very difficult for them to ever escape poverty. Most will end up begging, living in very poor quality temporary housing and at risk of exploitation by employers. It costs about £100 to provide food, transport, uniform, shoes, stationary and government school fees for one year. By donating to my page you might be able to help these children have a brighter future and a better life.
