Story
Hi All!
Thank you for coming to my page! On 17th April 2011 I will be running the London Marathon. Any donations will be very gratefully received - please take a moment to read some details below about the charity I will be raising money for, I think you will find it rather interesting:
Engineers Without Borders UK (EWB-UK) is an international development organisation that removes barriers to development through engineering. Our mission is to "facilitate human development through engineering."
We support partner organisations around the world through work experience placements where young engineers assist them with their projects. We give small, peer-reviewed bursary awards to individuals looking to undertake research, projects or learning that relates to our aims. Our training courses raise awareness and develop skills - we run hundreds of these events across the UK each year. We help and encourage universities to include more on international development in undergraduate engineering teaching. We use facilities available in the UK to research solutions to real development problems. To raise awareness for future generations, we run outreach workshops in schools on issues such as water and shelter.
Our work is delivered by our members - a large team of dedicated volunteers supported by a small staff. We have a vital network of branches at universities across the UK, where volunteers run events and activities for their members and communities. Professional engineers get involved to lend their support and expertise to our work.
EWB-UK brings people, projects and funding together to find solutions to the problem of poverty. We have an important niche, working with development organisations, universities and the engineering profession. We are creating a new generation of engineers who can work towards a world where access to technology and infrastructure is not a barrier to poverty alleviation - where no one has to live in poverty.
Please donate what you can! I will also be looking to beat my personal best, so all support is very welcome.
Many thanks to you all.
