Story
Selamat datang! Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In January 2015 I will be travelling to Malaysia where I will be undertaking an 8 month volunteer placement with Project Trust, an educational charitable organisation.
Project Trust sends young volunteers abroad to over 20 countries annually. It is widely known as one of the most experienced Gap Year organisations in the UK. The charity believes in order to gain an uncondensed experience of the local community, placements of 8 or 12 months are to be undertaken as this enables us, as young volunteers, to fully immerse ourselves into the multicultural mix.
Malaysia is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country in Southeast Asia. Its multicultural and multiracial population of Malays, Chinese, Indians and numerous indigenous people contribute to the captivating multiracial composition of its combined population of 30 million. However, whilst some areas have developed rapidly in the last twenty years due to industrial developments which many areas have benefited from, countless areas remain much more traditional and considerably poorer; it is here where I aim to make the most difference to the young people I will be encountering.
Whilst in Malaysia I will be teaching English and Science to young students in primary and secondary schools as well as running extracurricular sporting activities, giving me the chance to express and share the enthusiasm I have for these subjects with those less fortunate than myself.
I am thrilled to have been given this opportunity as I am very excited about going to meet new people and to fully integrate into a new culture. I believe can make a positive difference to the lives of both young people and those in my soon to be local community.
I have a good deal of fundraising activities planned, including a sponsored walk, calendar marked occasions and Malaysian themed dinner parties as well as approaching a number of charitable trusts. I aim to be able to achieve my fundraising target of £4,870 with the outcome of these events and the generous support of my friends and family. The money will be set directly to the charity and it will cover the cost of travel, operating expenses and living fees whilst in Malaysia.
Any donation is invaluable and is greatly appreciated!
