Story
Anyone who knows Abigail and Emilia may know these two things.... they ABSOLUTELY ADORE animals, AND they have quite low stamina when it comes to walking 🤦🏼♀️ So, what better way to challenge themselves but to combine both of these things.
During lockdown 1, subsequently lockdown 2, and now lockdown 3 they have really enjoyed discovering and watching Deadly 60 with Steve Backshall 📺 One episode touched them in particular - Rhino Rescue Special: series 4, episode 1 🦏 They were literally in tears along with Steve at the moment he describes the near-death of a precious Rhino who had been attacked for its horns 💔😢 Luckily this Rhino survived and went on to mother more Rhinos. However, some aren’t so lucky and poachers are still a huge threat to the endangered Rhino population. Each time they want to watch Deadly 60, they find themselves coming back to that heart-wrenching episode.... no matter how sad it is, something has really touched and resonated with them. And, no matter how many times they have watched it, it doesn’t get any easier to listen to what happens to that particular rhino. Did you know, every 12 hours a Rhino is poached on average across Africa?
So, they started to think about how, from the walls of Ashford - Surrey, they could do something to help these beautiful animals. Bake sale, making trinkets to sell along with chores for money, all came up as suggestions.... BUT it didn’t feel like a big enough test to put them through their paces ✨ Also, with Covid they wanted something easy enough to put out there without causing any risk to others.
On February 6th the girls want to walk The Long Walk in Windsor from Windsor Castle to the Iron Horse Statue and back - it’s around 6 miles. This is a pretty big deal for most 9 year olds, but for Abigail and Emilia this really is HUGE!! 💪🏻
They have set a target of £100 and are hoping you - their family, friends and followers - will give them a little bit of sponsorship ahead of their big day to spur them on; £1, £2, £5 or whatever you can rustle up. In addition, they have raided their own money boxes and have £22.44 to add to whatever total they end up raising 🥰🥰
Please join us in seeing the passion in this, and help them raise as much as possible to send to their chosen Rhino charity. This really does mean a lot to them and has given them a focus in lockdown, at a time when we’re all finding it hard to motivate ourselves to do much.
Thank you 🙏🏻 xxx
Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary (UK) was established as a charity in 2020 to help raise funds towards the conservation of endangered species, in particular rhinoceroses. We do that by making grants towards the rescue and ongoing care of any orphaned animals, but we also recognise and support the importance of community development to help provide education, health services and jobs and thereby reduce the temptation to succumb to poaching in the first place.
