The worst earthquake in over a century has struck south-eastern Turkey near the Syrian border, killing over 33,000 people

£100 - Emergency aid - help us to provide urgent food, water, and medical aid to earthquake survivors
The 7.8 magnitude earthquake, the worst since 1999, is Turkey’s deadliest on record. Entire neighbourhoods have been devastated and many people remain trapped beneath the rubble. The death toll is rising as a massive emergency rescue operation is hampered by horrific weather conditions, including rain and snow.
The epicentre of the earthquake is a region already devastated by war. Hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, already struggling for survival amidst a bitter winter, have been impacted.
The healthcare system in Syria, already severely under-resourced and overwhelmed, is struggling to cope with hospitals destroyed, damaged, and evacuated.
Dr. Ubeyd Sakin, Human Appeal’s Turkiye, Country Director said: ‘’This is the worst earthquake since the devastating Istanbul earthquake of 1999, almost 2,000 buildings have collapsed, 1,000 people have lost their lives and many are severely injured. Unfortunately, this number is expected to rise. The disaster hit 10 of Turkiye’s Southern cities,
where most of the Syrian refugees reside. There is urgent need for shelter, food and winter items such as blankets as temperatures in the area continue to drop.’’
Human Appeal is on the ground
Thousands of homes have been affected, and families are
now living in temporary accommodation. Human Appeal is on the ground right now working in close coordination with the local authorities, monitoring the events and participating in the humanitarian efforts to provide vital assistance to affected families, who are in urgent need.
Please donate, and help our local team in Turkey and Syria to provide urgent relief to survivors of this shocking tragedy
