Story
I never thought I would be in a hospice with my baby boy Sonny. He had only just come into the world and yet it was time for him to leave already.
The shock and disbelief was indescribable. How could this be happening? But it was.
Our precious little baby Sonny had suffered an antenatal event, which meant his brain had been starved of oxygen, resulting in catostrophic brain damage. There was nothing that could be done to save him.
Having spent several days in the neonatal unit, Dave and I decided to move our precious boy to the shooting Star hospice in Hampton. The ambulance journey was tense, I knew he didn't have long left but we made it and I'm so glad we did.
Walking into the hospice, I felt scared but within a few minutes I knew we had made the right decision. Here we got to spend some very precious time with our beautiful Sonny. We went out into the garden and held him in our arms. The sun was shining and there was a gentle breeze. A wind chime softly rang in the background and our other children, George and William were playing freely. There was a toy car in the garden and William took his little brother Sonny for a little drive. This is a memory I will treasure forever.
The staff there took care of everything from meals, to offering a comforting hug. When Sonny decided it was his time to say goodbye, the nurses were quietly there to offer any support we needed. It was such a surreal, yet strangely beautiful moment. Our boy gently left our arms forever.
The aftercare was outstanding. Every person we met was so gentle and kind, this really meant alot and made a heartbreaking experience that little bit easier. I can't put into words how wonderful this charity truly are. They will have a special place in my heart forever.
Please sponser me so this amazing charity can continue with their life changing work.
