Story

Our Practice's HR Manager, Sue, was sadly diagnosed with advanced Bowel Cancer in 2021. Just a year later, we had to say goodbye to her. At this point, her colleagues & friends at Elmwood Family Doctors promised we would do something to celebrate her great life and give back to the charities that helped her and her family through this difficult time.

Sue was an avid walker and could often be spotted walking across the beautiful hills of the Holme Valley (photo of Sue above at Wolfstones).  We therefore thought a sponsored walk in Sue's name would be a fitting way to remember her by and also raise money for a charity that supported her from the very beginning of her diagnosis. The walk will be a distance of approximately 12 miles taking place on 20th May, starting at Elmwood Family Doctors, heading over to Castle Hill and then back to Wolfstones; a 2 peak local challenge!

Kirkwood Hospice is a very special place. The 24-hour care that Sue received in the last week of her life was incredible, providing Sue and her family the comfort needed at this time. The funds we raise will support other families in Huddersfield in accessing this vital end-of-life care.
