We support hospitals across Leicester to equip our hospitals beyond NHS standards

Story

Following the loss of our friend Ellis White, we have decided that we want to do something to honour him whilst raising as much money as possible to support those who gave exceptional care to Ellis. Both the Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospitals provided Ellis with outstanding care and we wish to show them our thanks. Following a kidney transplant in 2019, Ellis was on anti-rejection drugs putting him in the vulnerable category. He contracted Covid-19 in January and at the age of 24 sadly passed away on the 12th February 2021.

Ellis was a loving, charismatic, remarkable friend and his infectious laugh would fill every room. He was loved dearly by his family, friends, colleagues and pretty much anyone else who had the privilege of knowing and meeting him. Ellis always wanted the best for all of his friends. He was selfless, thoughtful, supportive and encouraged us all to be the best we possibly can. He was a cherished member of our friendship group and - although we will always remember him - we want to ensure that we honour him in the best possible way that will make him proud. As a huge cycling fan, we cannot think of a better way to remember Ellis and keep his exceptional spirit alive.

With a combined weight of 1100kg, twelve of Ellis’ closest friends (and others who want to honour him along the way) will be making the journey from John O’Groats to Land’s End. With a mixture of cricket players, rugby players, footballers and beer drinkers this is completely unchartered territory for us. On the 2nd August 2021, we will be dusting off (or purchasing) our lycra and making the 954 mile journey from John O’Groats to Land’s End. In 10 days, we plan to cycle (no driving allowed… apart from the ‘support vehicle’ in the shape of Brett and Diggers) the length of the country.

In addition to honouring our great friend, we hope to raise as much money as we possibly can for the Leicester Hospitals Charity, as a thanks to those who have helped Ellis. During his dialysis and kidney transplant, Ellis received exceptional care from the Leicester General Hospital Renal Ward; he regularly commented on how fantastic and supportive they were. More recently, the ICU at the Leicester Royal Infirmary cared lovingly for Ellis when he contracted Covid-19. Ellis and his family have always praised the immense amount of support the hospitals in Leicester provided throughout Ellis’ treatment. We cannot thank them enough and hope that this will help them to continue to provide the same level of support and care for others, just as they did for Ellis.

We’d love to raise as much money as possible for this great charity that was close to Ellis’ heart and appreciate any donation you can make - no matter how small.

Thanks very much.
