Story
Myself and Brian are running The Great North Half marathon in September for fantastic Finley, in the hope to raise awareness and money to help him in the future!
Finley’s story
Finley is a 7 year old little boy with quad cerebral Palsy. He is one of a twin born 11 weeks early. Finley is not able to walk and run around with his twin brother or friends. Finley is highly dependent on his family, friends and teachers to get though day to day basics, including eating, drinking and changing. Finley sometimes gets very frustrated as he is unable to do all the things his twin brother does, basic things we all take for granted.
Finley had an operation called SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) which removed almost all of the spasticity from his lower limbs. The outcome of this operation was life changing for Finley. He now sleeps a lot better throughout the night, he’s toilet trained and all of the spams and stiffness has gone. He is no longer crying out in pain! Due to Finley being a GMCFS Level 4/5 the operation was NOT funded by the NHS! He had the operation at The Great Portland Hospital in London which cost a grand total of £35,500. We are now trying to raise funds for Finley's Future with on going physio therapy that is very important to help him become as able as he can be. We are also fund raising for equipment he may need in the future, as disability equipment is very expensive.
