Story
Both my grandad (2019) and nan (2021) were at the hospice at the end of their life. The hospice helped us as a family many times between 2019 - 2021. Before my grandad got ill I had no idea how hospices worked. My grandad deteriorated whilst living at home with my nan. My nan really struggled with dealing with my grandad as he was so poorly. When my grandad needed a bed at the hospice it came to our attention that the hospice are unable to open all the beds they have due to not having enough funding. We were extremely lucky to be able to get a bed 2 days before my grandad passed away. I can not explain the relief this gave the whole family, including my grandad as he was very restless at home. Every time we would visit the hospice it was a calm environment and the staff made the 2 of the worst experiences I have had to deal with bearable and somehow brought comfort to us. It saddens me to think of the families who have to cope without the hospice and I would like to raise as much as possible so that as many people as possible can have access to the hospice should they need it.
