Story
Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page.
This June, I am cycling the Coast to Coast in memory of my Mum, Helen Foster. I will be doing this almost 2 years to the week that she passed at the age of 54 from gastric cancer.
You may remember that just after her passing in 2021 I ran the Great North Run in the place that was meant to be hers to raise funds for St Cuthbert's Hospice. Mum spent her final month there and she passed away peacefully after being looked after by the amazing nurses, doctors and the rest of the team. Through everyone's generous donations I was able to raise over £2600, which is enough to cover the costs of St Cuthbert's full clinical services for 24 hours.
The Coast to Coast (C2C) cycle route is poignant to me and my family, as the second day of cycling passes right past our family home in Rookhope where I grew up and have so many fond memories of mum. I will be spending the night before the final day of cycling there, and I am sure that staying there will give me the strength to carry on for the final day!
I am by no means a cyclist, having at this point never ridden a bike for more than an hour in one sitting. But, I am motivated to support St Cuthbert's in the memory of Mum to "pay for a day", as we have through my own and my sister Evie's fundraising efforts over the last 2 years.
Donations are key to St Cuthbert's as they don't charge for their care, and it costs over £2 million a year to keep the hospice running. This helps ensure that Hospice care is available to everyone.
Thank you so much for reading our story, and in advance for any donations you are able to give.
