Story
Founded in 2008 by Mike Peters of The Alarm and James Chippendale the Love Hope Strength Foundation promotes innovative, music related, outreach and awareness programmes for leukemia and cancer sufferers, survivors and their families. The charity raises awareness and recruits potential donors to the organ and bone marrow registers. Our treks to Everest, Kilimanjaro, Snowdon and Fuji have funded projects in those regions and we have registered over 150,000 to the Bone Marrow Register and found over 3,000 potentially life-saving matches,
Through its ‘Get On The List’ programme, LHS helps identify marrow donors to match with those in need of a second chance at life. LHS also supports life saving and life changing equipment and special projects aimed at supporting some of the most vulnerable people affected by cancer. The LHS mission? To save lives, one concert at a time. Incredibly, LHS has already delivered over 180,000 people to the international bone marrow donor list. This has resulted in 3,316 direct and potentially life saving matches and 307 people now being given a second chance at life (as of January 1st 2018). As well as equipping hospitals and community cancer services in the USA and UK with new facilities and equipment, LHS has also already built and supported cancer centres in Tanzania and Nepal and now LHS aims to do lots, lots more. Led by volunteers and supported through partnerships with leading international organisations, LHS provides its supporters with value for money and opportunities to have fun whilst giving back, and it provides those it serves with a lifeline. Funds raised through Rock the Canyons will help to support Love Hope Strength’s three grants programs: a) International cancer care - offering love, hope and Strength to families affected by cancer in underprivileged areas of the world by supporting new equipment, facilities and specialist services in hospitals and in the community. This is managed in partnership with UICC, the Union for International Cancer Control. b) The Get On The List programme - registering people on the international bone marrow donor list to help save lives. This is managed in partnership with DKMS, the international blood cancer charity. c) The new equipment programme - changing lives in the US and the UK through the provision of state of the art equipment in hospitals and health centres, aimed at enhancing the care and treatment people with cancer and their carers receive. This is managed in partnership with accredited cancer care providers in the USA and the NHS in the UK. |
