Story
A few years ago, I lost my Grandma to Alzheimer's, one of the most common types of Dementia, effecting the brain which can lead to memory loss and difficulties with speech and language amongst other brutal factors. Over a few years, I saw my Grandma slowly deteriorate, her speech and memory fading, losing weight because she didn't feel the need to eat. It was a heartbreaking time, especially for my Mum and my Uncle. She was such a beautiful soul and we thought the world of her. I thought it was time for me to do my part to contribute and make her proud.
Last year, I completed a trek of The Great Wall of China in aid of Cancer Research UK. I did this for my other Grandmother and my Godmother with thoughts of many others I know and am very close with that have been affected by Cancer.
This year is a new year, and two women who have been so influential in my life, I have lost. I, therefore, decided I wanted to do something for them both. Trekking the Great Wall for my Grandmother and Godmother was a huge challenge, but I am very happy to say I managed to raise over £2000 for Cancer Research UK and now I want to do the same for my Grandma.
I am taking on a hugely challenging trek up one of Indonesia's highest peak, Mount Rinjani volcano in aid of Alzheimer's Society. I will be undertaking five months of training in order to complete this challenge, due to the extreme heat, humidity, steepness and length of the days. This is a huge test of physical and mental abilities, climbing an overall of 3,729m over 10 days and I need all the help I can get! Please help me to reach my goal and support the fight against Alzheimer's.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story,
