Ellie Steps for Sepsis

Ellie Birch is raising money for UK Sepsis Trust

Ellie’s Steps for Sepsis · 30 November 2021

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

Two years ago, whilst I was at University, I received a call from my Mum to tell me that my Dad had been rushed into hospital and had been diagnosed with Sepsis. Before this, we had no idea of the impact Sepsis can have or how quickly it can develop.

Thankfully, due to the amazing care from the paramedics and the NHS, my Dad recovered well. Throughout November, I will be walking 10k steps a day in an effort to raise money for Sepsis UK, increase awareness of Sepsis and fund vital research.
