Story
Someone in the UK is diagnosed with a blood cancer every 16 minutes. Blood cancer is the fifth most common type of cancer in the UK.
My father was diagnosed with Leukaemia 6 years ago (a variety called ALL – acute lymphoblastic leukaemia) and due to an incredible donor, he has been given a second chance of life.
He was focused on achieving Route A, which was another 20 weeks of treatment and to be out post a stem cell transplant within 6 months and he was lucky and He returned home on Christmas Eve 2015. However not all of his Basing Unit “cohort” were so fortunate and leukaemia continues to be a deadly killer with survival rates below 50%; causing 13 deaths a day in the UK.
My Dad has been fortunate since his return to be involved with Leukaemia UK; a leading leukaemia charity funding early stage research... the foundation for the next generation of doctors who will work to find cures for this terrible cancer.
We are forever grateful as a family to the advances in science that created my Dad’s luck in finding a donor and to the amazing doctors and researchers. Leukaemia UK will keep supporting these advances and any support that you can give will keep funding the search for an end to leukaemia.
I will be running the London Marathon this year in support of Leukaemia UK, I would unbelievably grateful for any donations towards this cause.
Thanks,
Ellie xxx
