Ellie's 10k Run for Cornerstone Day Centre

Bupa Great Manchester Run 2014 · 18 May 2014 ·
As part of my masters I was sent on a 10 week placement to gain experience working in the community. My destination was Cornerstone, a day centre for poor and vulnerable people living in Manchester, many of whom are homeless, run by the charity Caritas Diocese of Salford.
They provide a warm, safe, welcoming environment with services including: food, hot drinks, showers, computer access, telephone access, a barber, an optician and a dentist.
They also run training and activities (see the video I've posted in the Gallery section of this page to see a recent drama project!)
I can't begin to describe what a rollercoaster experience these 10 weeks have been. I've been told stories that have broken my heart; I've seen people living in seemingly unbearable circumstances; but most of all I have laughed, because the relentless positivity and humour of the service-users is incredible.
The centre plays a vital role in providing a support network for these incredible people. Many have told me that they wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for Cornerstone.
To raise money for the centre I'm going to be doing the Bupa Great Manchester Run. It's 10k, so I'm going to need to do some training!
The centre is run entirely on donations - and, believe me, they can make a little go a long way. Whatever you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ellie
