Ellie & Kim's China Trek!
Fundraising for St Catherine’s Hospice (Crawley)
Fundraising for St Catherine’s Hospice (Crawley)
Hello everyone.
We are trekking the GREAT WALL OF CHINA in May 2018 all in aid to raise money for St Catherine's hospice in Crawley.
This hospice is the most amazing place full of the most wonderful staff. They look after people and their families through the toughest times of their lives. They look after many in there inpatient unit at the hospice, however they have a huge team of nurses and staff that look after many patients in the community they may be coming towards the end of their life.
If anyone has had an encounter with any staff from St Catherine's, you will know they are all absolutely amazing and will go out of their way to help patients and relatives in times of need. The charity is huge and has many many staff which all have one vision; to help. They allow a peaceful and lovely environment in the hospice for terminally ill patients to come for daycare, and for patients to stay on the unit and be pain free and comfortable in their final days of life. They allow patients family & pets to stay with them. They have gone out of their way to help patients, even organising weddings at the hospice.
All of this involves the care from nurses, many medicines and machines which all costs so much money. The charity is completely run on donations and relys on the kindness of people to be able to do the job they do so well.
We will be away for 9 days and trek over 5 days of those. The trek consists of 6-7 hours of walking per day, covering distances from 6-15km each day. Some days we will walk on the restored bits of the wall, however some days will be harder and will consist of many hills and trekking through the forest next to the wall, finishing off with a huge climb up a watch tower at the top of a mountain. We will trek these 5 days in tempatures between 20-30 degrees and will have to carry our own back bags full of equipment. Overnight we will stay in guest houses in nearby villages run by locals.
This will be a massive challenge for both of as, seeing as we have never trekked before in our lives, but we couldn't think of a better charity to do it for. We have contributed towards the cost of the trip and we will be training our bums off over the next year and dedicating ourselves to this.
All we ask is please please please DONATE. No matter how small it may be, it all adds up and makes a huge difference. Our total between us is £6600.
Keeps your eyes posted as we will be running events throughout the year to help raise money for this amazing cause.
Thank you all so much,
Lots of love
Ellie & Kim
