Great Birmingham Run 2020 · 11 October 2020 ·
Hi guys, this is my fundraising page for my Birmingham Half Marathon run that takes place on Sunday 1st May 2022 !!!
I was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia which is a chronic pain condition affecting the nerves in my face that causes excruciating pain. It is a rare disease to get at 18 as you would normally get it at the age of 50 +. I have since found out I am only of the only cases in the country to have to so young!!
I was then hospitalised in the QE from March to May 2019 due to my pain becoming unbearable. The doctors tried over 35 different medications and one round of neurosurgery to stop the pain. I eventually had brain surgery in July 2019 to cure my TN and it did!! Thank God!!
During this traumatic time, my family was staying in Fisher House as my Dad is a Lt Colonel in the British Army. Fisher House was truly their home away from home and without Fisher House, we would have been stuck. It gave me peace of mind knowing that my family were around the corner if I needed them whilst I was in hospital. During our time at Fisher House, we made friends for life and I am so thankful for everyone at Fisher House for being there for my family and I.
After watching some of my friends run a half marathon for their chosen charity, I was truly inspired by them and I have decided to run one of my own. I might be crazy but I am going to do it anyway. I want to raise money for this amazing charity and give back to a cause that means so much to me.
Obviously COVID came and knocked my idea out of the park in 2020 and 2021 but I am hoping now that this year I will finally be able to run my half marathon!! I am so nervous but so excited at the same time!
Wish me luck!!
