Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have applied to volunteer with the International Citizen Service (ICS), who work with communities in Africa and Asia who have specifically requested their help. I have been accepted as a volunteer for 3 months on a development programme in Zimbabwe starting just after Christmas. I’ll be working alongside volunteers from Zimbabwe as well as the UK, on a project that focuses on education of reproductive health, civic participation and livelihoods. This includes working to promote safe sexual practices among young people, ensuring that governments and policy makers recognise and support the role of young people in society, and to give young people skills and resources to take up productive livelihoods and employment opportunities to contribute to their household income and local economy.
We will be organising meetings, resource centres, awareness campaigns and training workshops to provide local people with information that will help to improve their everyday lives. This opportunity is a great chance for me to gain some experience and background before I start my International Development course next year at the University of Sussex.
I have been asked to raise £1500 for Restless Development who are one of the development charities that deliver the ICS programmes. The money raised goes to the charity and will enable them to continue sending youth volunteers abroad to developing countries. So far I have been bag packing in my local supermarket and am also organising an Indian meal for family and friends. However I still have a long way to go, so any contributions that could be spared would be greatly appreciated!
