Story
Hi, I’m Ellen Ratcliffe and I've joined #TeamStOswalds in 2022 for the largest half-marathon in the world, in memory of my Grandad who we sadly lost in August last year after his short battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Gateshead before crossing over the Tyne to Newcastle and was proud to be a Geordie. Although he only spent a short time at St Oswalds he really enjoyed his time there thanks to the staff and nurses that looked after him. Knowing that he was well looked after, especially during such difficult times, was a great reassurance for all the family.
Although enjoying lots of sports at a young age, including running the Junior Great North Run, my running was left behind when I decided to concentrate on competitive swimming. Following in my mums running shoes, taking part in the GNR this year will be a great challenge for me. Setting myself this goal has given me something to focus on and look forward to, in a time when, like many, it has been difficult to set goals for the future. Taking part and raising money in grandads memory has given me the ability to turn something sad into something positive and help St Oswalds continue their inspiring work in supporting those with life limiting conditions.
Please support me and by doing so help support St Oswalds who pass through make the most of the time they have left.
St Oswald's Hospice are supporting everyone, whether were seasoned runners, or even if its our first Great North Run ever! By running the Great North Run 2022 with St Oswald's I am committing to raise a minimum of £350 towards the work of the Hospice. If you can spare any change and donate to such an amazing cause or if you'd like to join me on the team please get in touch with either Bethany or Emily on 0191 285 0063. Thanks for sponsoring me for being part of something incredible for St Oswald's Hospice.
