Story
I started working at Room to Heal in September 2018.It is a healing community for people who have survived torture, trafficking, and other forms of organised violence. Our members come from over 30 countries across the world. It's where people find a place of belonging. Through a holistic therapeutic programme the aim is to enable our members to heal from their traumatic experiences, find renewed meaning in life and integrate into the UK. Our community-based approach emphasises human connection. Alongside our therapeutic programme we offer practical casework support, and help community members to withstand the many difficulties they face. We are united by a common belief in humanity and respect for human rights. We grow food, cook and eat together in beautiful community gardens in Islington.
The work is simple really: it's about human connection and love.
Room to Heal is a small NGO that does so much with so little money. I would really appreciate any donation you can afford to make sure we can continue to do this work.
£150 pays for a group therapy session for 10 members
£40 pays for a meal for 30 people - it's truly amazing what our community members and volunteers can cook for this amount
£20 pays for an hour's casework appointment
£5 pays for a community member to travel to Room to Heal
On a personal note, 10km might not seem like a lot, but I can assure you I am not a runner and my 5k practice run today was not easy. Mia is also finding it challenging - to say the least - so please be assured we are working hard for this!!
Thanks so much for your support. Check out www.roomtoheal.org for lots more info on this great organisation.
